It’s Thanksgiving day and the TV Guide is full of various specials, shows, and movies to enjoy with your family and friends. From watching the Thanksgiving parades while you start your cooking in the morning, to winding down at the end of the night with a movie, we’ve put together a list of all of the must-watch TV on Thanksgiving day.
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
There are many Thanksgiving Day parades that take place on Thanksgiving morning, but none are quite as large as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. This parade takes place in New York City, and has been taking place for over 90 years. The parade includes balloons, floats, and multiple acts and performances from Broadway shows and musical artists. The parade kicks off at 9am on NBC.
The National Dog Show
Calling all pet lovers, this show is a can’t miss. The National Dog Show is one of three major dog shows that take place in the United States each year. It showcases over 2,000 of the top American Kennel Club sanctioned dogs as they compete for Best in Show. The National Dog Show airs on NBC starting at 12pm.
Football Games
For all of the sports fans, there is plenty of football on TV during the day. The lineup this year includes these match-ups:
- Chicago Bears at Detriot Lions – 12:30pm on CBS
- Â Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys – 4:30pm on FOX
- Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints – 8:20pm on NBC
Christmas Movies
After the Thanksgiving meal has been served and desserts are being enjoyed, it’s a popular family tradition to kick off the Christmas season by watching a holiday movie. On Lifetime, catch the premiere of ‘The Christmas Contract’ at 8pm, and on the Hallmark Channel ‘Christmas at Pemberley Manor’ airs at 6pm.
If you’re not in the mood for a holiday movie, there are other great feature films to enjoy. The classic 80’s film ‘The Breakfast Club’ will air on VH1 at 5pm. If you’re looking for something that the whole family will enjoy ‘The Greatest Showman’ airs on HBO at 8pm.
